Veterans United Employee Mason Maddox

Mason Maddox

I am a local here to our headquarters in Columbia, MO. I have had the pleasure of working at Veterans United for eight years, helping my veteran clients all over the country take advantage of their VA home loan benefit. While I didn’t serve myself, my grandfather was a proud Marine, who instilled his strong values of discipline and integrity in me and my siblings. I bring those same values and dedication to work with me every day to help my clients with one of most important and exciting decisions of their lives. I am your resource to answer all of your home buying questions, so please call the office or my cell anytime! When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling and spending time out at the farm with my yellow lab, Bodie.

Mason and Christy were amazing to work with. The whole team is so nice and professional. I feel like they went above and beyond to get everything completed. I would highly recommend VU and Mason and his team to a friend.

I was denied for a VA loan from other preferred VA loan institutions but Mason and his exceptional team at Veterans United worked with me from day one with a YES mentality and made my dream come true.

Just wanted to say, thank you to Veterans United Home Loans and to all of those involved for an excellent job! I appreciate the professionalism and everything that went into my loan, from top to bottom. All of you have made this a very easy and painless process. I look forward to recommending you to my family and friends and would not hesitate conducting business with you again in the future, thanks again!

All in all, my advice to future veterans is this, go with a local bank/credit union wherever you're deciding to plant roots. My reasons are below.1. This is NOT the fault of the loan team that handled my case, but the operating system that VU uses is one of the worst I've dealt with in my life. I submitted documents over and over again before the system would accept it. In addition to that, when I was required to give explanations for certain situations, the system would time out on me, but only after I would push the "submit" button to give my response. It was a hassle to get things submitted on the "To Do List." And there are enough things to do during the process where this becomes incredibly frustrating.2. This one DOES apply to my loan team. The loan team conducted an employment verification about 10 or so days before my original closing date, and I got a call from someone on the loan team saying my wife and I could no longer buy the house due to a funding issue on my part (this was something I had asked them about months ago and they said it would be no issue). During the call I reminded them that we spoke about this in the past and they said it would have no impact, but they replied with, sorry, but the underwriter doesn't like it. 30 minutes later I got a call back telling me everything was ok. It all turned out fine in the end, but the stress with the process increased exponentially, and my confidence with the loan team plummeted.3. This one IS on the loan team again. My realtor and I would have questions for the loan team, and we couldn't get someone to answer the phone for multiple days (to include messages). It doesnt sound like much, but when you're waiting for an answer to make a move on a house, it becomes a bigger issue. On the plus side, the loan team was incredibly responsive during the week of closing. Any question my realtor had or I had were answered in minutes. My personal opinion is that Veterans United deals with too many accounts to give customers in the early/mid stages the attention they give customers in closing week. Go with a local bank. You'll likely have more success. This was my first home purchase, and my veteran sibilings had reccomended I use a local bank, but I went with what I thought was best. I wish I had listened to them.
