I would have liked a more realistic estimate of t he final numbers. This is my second loan with VU and I will definitely use them again.
We found the process very frustrating. We had submitted documents for pre-approval, only to have to turn around and resubmit them for underwriting. Every time we thought we’d finished our to-do list, there was something else asked for. Additionally, underwriting did not understand that as a retiree, John no longer receives monthly pay statements and kept asking for it over & over saying it was expired when it wasn’t. We got the congratulations, ready to close and found out while at closing the paperwork was not sent until 9:00am when settlement was scheduled for 10:00am. The final settlement paper we received to review incorrectly showed us needing $1600 to close when we were getting that amount back. The previous statement a week earlier showed us getting $2200+ back … there was no explanation as to where the difference went. Only that we could not get back anymore than we paid in. And, we paid in more than $1600. We paid $1,000 GFD, $600 appraisal, and $485 home inspection.
Response from Veterans United
John, we appreciate your feedback on this matter. Last minute requests often create additional stress, and we apologize that your experience was negatively impacted. Licensed Underwriters comply with regulations to ensure loans are properly documented, and we work to make that process as easy as possible. The process for disclosing the costs of a loan is managed very closely and discussing the details around your final closing figures is part of our commitment to deliver outstanding service. A member of our Client Advocate team has attempted to reach you and we invite you to connect with us further. Our team will be researching your comments to determine what our team may do in the future to help prevent a similar misunderstanding.

Josh and Rain were the most spectacular duo for us in buying our home. They both were so informative, quick to respond, and thoughtful with us. Anytime we have questions or concerns, they were both on top of it which was so helpful for us. We would highly recommend them both to any veteran who is trying to buy a home, especially for the first time!
