I DO NOT recommend working with Veterans United or Christopher Steiffermann and his team. As a first time homebuyer and a veteran who served this country the whole experience was horrible. Communication was terrible. Clerical errors caused delays, miscommunication towards myself and my realtor and his team. Veterans United made sure to get me a high interest rate when they know they can absolutely go slightly lower, they did it during the great COVID hoax they can still do it. Especially for veterans. On closing day I was told to be there at an early time, when I had showed up I sat there without their help or communication for 5 extra hours by myself. I miss working hours and good pay for them to surprise me with closing cost that was never discussed. I called my concierge Lindsey Taylor for help. I NEVER received a phone call back. Again, as a veteran and first time homebuyer I was indeed left alone. The VA and Veterans United gave me a home with only half of the electricity working and for me to figure out the rest. My realtor and the sellers realtor had to forfeit their commission just to get the deal done. After closing My message is to all the Good veterans out there who are going through life like myself. Don’t let people take advantage of you and do your research before dealing with a company like this.
Response from Veterans United
Hello Daniel, thank you for being specific in sharing your feedback and for letting us know about your overall experience. We understand how the home buying process can get stressful, especially for the first time. While we cannot change the experience you had we want to ensure that no other Veterans have this same experience in the future. Our goal at Veterans United is to help create the best situation for yourself and your family. We realize that interest rates can vary from lender to lender and is one of the most important factors in your home buying decision. Discussing those and all the details around your final closing figures is part of our commitment to deliver outstanding service. Our commitment to serving you is unwavering. We also know the transition to home ownership presented unexpected challenges and understand how the process of selecting the right property for a VA home loan can sometimes lead to property improvements along the way. One of our Client Advocate team members has begun to research your comments, and will be working hard to learn as much as possible about what caused your closing delays. While we cannot change the experience you had we are committed to accountability, exploring ways to improve, and seeking opportunities to continue serving you. Should you wish to share more information regarding this or any other matter, then please do not hesitate to connect with us.
As first time home buyers, my husband and I were amazed to see the support and expertise that Veterans United offered us throughout the entire process. We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such an incredible team.

Just wanted to say thank Veterans United so much for everything you all do. The process was smooth and everybody cared about us. I'm very excited and happily able to say that me and my wife are now home owners now! Thank you all so much!

This is an A+ team and I will always be thankful

Very good organization. Was prompt with information from start to finish and made a process that is usually stressful very easy to navigate.

Simply put, “WOW”! The long winded, start to finish commutation was prompt and throughout. We faced several hurdles, but Kyle and his team jumped like Olympic athletes. Never once did I have to be concerned, because I knew I was in great hands. You guys have helped me secure a beautiful place to call home! Thank you all!

The whole team was great! This was my first home and they were on it from the time I got pre approval to the final day. I appreciate all the support as they guided me through the process. I wanted to close early and they made it happen. Thanks again for the support!

Both Jon and Justis were amazinly helpful. Competent and quick with the right response and information every time. I appreaciate them working with me on this out of the ordinary and challanging loan. Kuddos to both.

I will spread the word far and wide about this company " Veterans United". I am still in Awe of how you guys were our personal housing team and we could not have asked for better support. I will be a customer for life..

We want to sincerely thank Veterans United for helping us with purchasing our dream home. There really is a lot that goes into the home buying process and we are grateful we were sent the 5-star team to help us accomplish the task.
Thanks Ryan, Kelly and Briana for all the hard work you each contributed to the process. Assisting with the application, answering questions, providing useful guidance, following up, and providing much needed resources to prepare for the move-in process. Let’s not forget the encouragement and support provided during the home search process too.
Please know your professionalism and sincere commitment to the process does not go unrecognized. The level of customer service you each provided is unmatched and rarely seen these days.
Keep up the great work! We appreciate it, and future veteran homeowners will appreciate it as well.
Thanks again for everything!

This is my second time working with Veterans United and each time I have been treated with so much respect and kindness. Even in my darkest moments when I thought this process would end unfavorably, the VU staff kept me encouraged and never gave up on me. I recommend Veterans United to everyone I run into who is a veteran. Thank you for your continued professionalism!

Overall, the process was disappointing, to say the least. I chose Veterans United hoping they would understand my somewhat confusing military pay better than another bank. Unfortunately, we had problems from day one. It took 48 days to get a pre-approval for the home, something that I had the same day with other banks. Once approval was received and a property was selected, communication was slow, and we were constantly providing new documents. We would be told everything needed had been received and the next day more items would be requested. Additionally, the assistant for our loan team was useless. On four occasions, he would text saying he'd call later with an update, but I never once spoke with him on the phone. Instead, he would contact our realtor by email, who then would contact me. I tried to call him many times, but he never answered and never called me back. It was very clear and even admitted later by the loan officer, that the two were not in communication with each other. Lastly, there were many occasions when the loan officer would say "I'll call with an update tomorrow by XXXX (time)". As I recall, only once did he follow through with that, leaving us concerned and leading to delays each other time.Probably the most infuriating part of the process had to do with the finances themselves. We were promised over and over that we'd be able to adjust our down payment anywhere between 15 and 25 percent and have control over how many points we purchase. Before the loan going to underwriting, I requested a 20 percent down payment and no points on the loan. It seems this was ignored, and the terms of the loan came back with 25 percent and maximum points. When I spoke with the loan officer, he explained the down payment had to do with the unit being a condo and needing 25 to avoid a full condo review. I understand this issue but was irritated we were promised a lower percentage knowing this situation exists. That should have been shared with us upfront. When asked about the points, I was told the loan would not be approved by underwriting without buying them, leaving us with no control over any part of the loan. I felt boxed in, lied to, and like I'd been robbed. Lastly, regarding finances, it seems the loan officer didn't do their homework when establishing the closing costs. There was over a $1,000 difference between the initial and final closing costs even though we provided the information for the title company upfront.Overall, we feel we were taken advantage of. We were over-promised and under-delivered to. I unfortunately will not recommend Veterans United to anyone because of these issues. More likely, I will strongly recommend against this company. I feel using the slogans "Reliable, Relatable, and Real" and "We'll make it easy. You make it home." are lies. Quite frankly, it's a shame to have "Veteran" in the name of the company.

Very professional and very helpful in helping you get through the process! They took us through it stop by stop and made it very easy for us!🙂😍

This has been a experience I will never forget. Everyone was and is so supportive, I can't say thank you enough. Tim, Laura and Shaya of course as well as the whole team, thank you for helping me and my family get out dream home.

The loan adjuster was a mess, not sure if he's a part of this process, but I would've went with a different loan office if I wasn't that far into the buy. He clearly didn't have a checklist of items he would like to request or how detailed he would like the responses. It was a lot of back and forth while I was trying to work (from home) .

Jodi and her team were amazing during the entire home buying process. Always available to take my calls and to answer any questions I had. I would highly recommend Veterans United Home Loans.
